Updates MHA, HCC and Bargaining

March (FRIDAY The) 13th, 2026

Dear Members,

We would like to provide a brief update on the progress of collective bargaining and other important matters affecting our Local.

Bargaining Progress
Significant progress has been made during bargaining.

  • Health and Safety
  • Grievances and Arbitration
  • Most Joint Committees (the Job Evaluation Committee remains under discussion)
  • Harassment and Discrimination
  • Most Definitions. Full time/Part Time moved to Monetary
  • Job Postings

March 11th Bargaining Date was cancelled for emergency circumstances. We will be meeting next on March 30 2026.

The Bargaining process seems to be going faster and becomes more focused and centred.

Overtime Audit
Your Local is expecting to hear from the employer (MHA) regarding the overtime audit results covering the period back to 2019 by the end of March 2026. We will provide updates and reach out directly to any members who may be affected.

CRMS Rollout Training
Your Local is currently engaging the employer (MHA) in discussions to facilitate a group training or presentation—preferably in person—prior to the rollout of CRMS.

Lead Hand Duties – CBA Article 15.09
Your Local is also engaging the employer regarding Collective Agreement Article 15.09 (Lead Hand), specifically concerning the assignment of Lead Hand duties on a rotating basis as outlined in the Collective Agreement.

Workplace Violence Risk Assessment
The Ministry of Labour (MOL) recently attended HCC. As a result, the employer is required to conduct an assessment of the risk of workplace violence that may arise from the nature of the workplace, the type of work, or the conditions of work. This assessment must be completed by June 5, 2026. Further details will be posted on the JHSC board.

Professional Fee Reimbursement
Your Local is engaging the employer (HCC) regarding reimbursement of professional fees this year for a limited group of members, based on past practice. We have reached out to members who may potentially qualify and will provide further information as it becomes available.

Worth Fighting For Conference
On January 10, 2026, representatives from your Local attended the Worth Fighting For conference. We were pleased to learn that our Local is significantly ahead in many areas and were able to share valuable insights and strategies with participants from other locals.

While some of our efforts had to pause due to circumstances beyond our control, we expect to resume shortly and will continue providing updates as more information becomes available.

In solidarity,
Your Local
